Ещё раз о планах AMD по выпуску процессоров на архитектуре Zen

minato87, забавно как все обсирают AMD, а про семилетний позор Intel в лице архитектуры NetBurst (Pentium 4, Pentium D и т.д.) с их кукурузными мегагерцами и космическим тепловыделением молчат видимо религия не позволяет вспоминать фейлы своего мессии

По-моему тут так даже новый год не ждут...

Zen - заслуга Джима Келлера. По хорошему, на ZEN и на K7/K8 надо было вместо логотипа AMD так и писать - Jim Keller, а то люди ошибочно полагают, что AMD способна сама делать хорошие процы.

Буду дуже радий успіху АМД. Спасибі їм за багато їхніх технологій у нашому комп'ютерному світі.
Але я проти монополії. І був би дуже радий (думаю, що не я один) якби кількість конкурентів на ринку процесорів для ПК (АРМ поки що не берем до уваги) і відеокарт (вбудовані інтеловські, не зважаючи на їх кількість, теж не будемо рахувати) зросло хоча б у 1,5 рази. Тоді б періоди застою значно б скоротилися.
Хоча, зважаючи на вартість нових технологій та засилля патентів цього у найближчі років 10 навіть не намічається

Yes can confirm Keller was only involved in bringing improvements to verification methodology expertise to AMD.

Design Verification now takes 75% or more resources and time once RTL design (hardware description in HDL code) is more or less frozen. The R&D was ongoing well before Keller was even at AMD. This coming straight from current and past AMD engineers. Mike, Teja, Suzzane and team are really the people behind the high level system architecture for Zen.

Keller was also hired to do another important, but unpopular task, that is deciding who to be retained and who to be let go at the top engineering staff levels and moslty line managers. It was apparently very funny to see several managers starting to take up university level text books from their cupboards to brush up on core fundamentals along with more advanced topics pertinent to today's market. His rounds were grueling for even some few seasoned engineering staff. Those who didn't cut it (this number was very small) had to go, mostly technical management levels suffered the brunt, as it should be. Individual contributors are top notch professionals as it is, Keller's rounds weeded out far less, again as it should be.

PS: To those wondering why AMD isn't shedding totaly clarity on who gets credits on Zen, answer is simple. Professionals at that level don't care for your or the general public' endorsements. They fight among equals/peers at conferences and highly regarded forums. That's how they get their kicks.
